Groundnut is ranked 13th as the world's most valuable crops. In Pakistan It is considered as cash crop for Pothohar region. A total of 144,000 tons of groundnuts were produced in Pakistan in 2021-22. Over the past five years, this shows an increase of 68%. In terms of national production, Punjab dominates with 95 percent, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 4 percent and Sindh with 1 percent. It is still true that groundnuts suffer many post-harvest losses, which lead to economic loss, mitigating those losses includes in adding value to the chain of groundnuts. This project seeks to identify and address challenges faced by the sector by conducting a comprehensive analysis of the value chain. In addition to addressing the challenges, the project recognizes groundnut industry's pivotal role in the country and also focus on development of value-added products of locally produced groundnuts to create value among the consumers and encouraging betterment of local farmer community. Farmers and consumers will be able to unlock new opportunities through the development of innovative, value-added products.
