Design An Autonomous Robot For Disinfection Of Enclosed Spaces

Robotics is a rapidly growing domain of artificial intelligence that is widely used for space, underwater, logistics, security, medical, agricultural, and military purposes. The goal of robotics is to design intelligent and skilled machines that can help humans in their daily lives for domestic and commercial purposes. Robots have been replacing humans working in hazardous environments such as defusing bombs, exploring mines and shipwrecks. Keeping in view hazardous environments during the COVID pandemic, we have observed the need to continuously disinfect and sanitize rooms before and after usage. This is to stop the spread of the virus but the act of sanitization is conducted by a human being who has to wear additional protective clothing to avoid exposure. This job of disinfecting is a dangerous job for both physical and mental health. The primary objective of our project is to design an automatic robot that can disinfect enclosed spaces thereby human exposure to a deadly virus. The robot shall be capable of navigating the room independently through the use of sensors and also avoid obstacles. To enhance robot utility we will have a camera which would allow for object detection and smart spraying. The need for such a robot arises as disinfectant robots typically use ultraviolet light however the light is not able to reach all places, however, our robot with a smart spraying feature will ensure full disinfection of the enclosed space. Another advantage of our project is that it is cheaper to manufacture and operate than an ultraviolet-based robot. Hence our project, through automation, aims to safeguard human life by replacing human intervention in dangerous environments and additionally making any space for humans to interact. Also, the spread of a dangerous disease will be controlled.
